Welcome to my atelier.

What is an atelier, might you ask? It’s a cozy place, to learn and let your imagination soar. Here, your intellect is provoked and depth of understanding can begin its dig into your soul. You can wrestle with yourself and with Truth, and come out changed on the other side…having made something beautiful along the way. Simply put, it’s where knowledge and creativity are nurtured. That’s what this space is.

I aim to use this little corner to encourage women with God’s truth and inspire them with the creativity that flows from my daily life.

I believe in living simply, and slowly when possible. Using humble ingredients to make simple meals, keeping my house with a few simple cleaning supplies, decorating with unflashy, yet beautiful touches of nature and creativity from our own hands. I homeschool my two kiddos, teaching them simple yet profoundly meaningful life-skills and knowledge.

I’m all about resting in Christ, while diligently seeking His truth and applying it to everyday life, so if you are in need of graceful encouragement and a pop of inspiration, I’m glad you’re here. You’ll find recipes, biblical encouragement on womanhood + motherhood and the musings of a creative all wrapped up here.

“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4

My animal obsessed kiddos are loving learning abou My animal obsessed kiddos are loving learning about recently extinct species from one of our library books! We recently watched two separate shows talking about one of the species (thylocene) so they were thrilled when it showed up in this book again! Reading through the book and trying our hand at painting copies of these beautiful pictures was our homeschool day yesterday. I love the freedom homeschooling gives and I wouldn’t trade it for anything! #unschool #homeschool #familyfreedom #raisingreaders #criticalthinking
My monster sized sourdough bagels. Happy 1st day o My monster sized sourdough bagels. Happy 1st day of September friends, one of the BEST days of the year to me, because….Autumn, homeschool, soup season, baking season and pretty much just everything cozy and good. Enjoy it to the fullest! Laugh, work hard, enjoy the fruits of your labor and rest in Christs love for you this season! ☕️🥯🍵🍂🪵
I can’t say enough good things about these clean I can’t say enough good things about these cleaning cloths! They are so effective at wiping away grime and completely cleaning my countertops that it feels nearly magical. (But it’s science!) If you’re in the market for some new cleaning supplies that are non-toxic and affordable, definitely check these out! And now I’ll leave you with the deep thought of the day: “When you clean out a vacuum cleaner, you become a vacuum cleaner…” 😆 Life’s too short not to laugh often! Bless you friends.
That’s my kind of dominos 😆 “Man shall not That’s my kind of dominos 😆 “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 📚☕️🍞 Happy Day before Friday friends ✨ I hope you feast on God’s word (+ some good bread) today.
One of my favorite things about God is how CREATIV One of my favorite things about God is how CREATIVE He is. The variety of life on this earth is outrageous, and it’s full of beauty + wonder. He made us CREATIVE, in His image-yay! We are all creative, whether it’s with words, paint, food, science, cars…you name it, God made us in His own image and we can’t help ourselves but to do like our Father and put our hands to creating. I hope you can see and appreciate the unique creativity He wired inside of you today and I hope you find ways more and more all the time to share that with others and bless them with it! I am creative with words, plants, spaces (although I’m not GREAT at that by many standards) food, and some typical artsy things like watercolor painting and sketching. What are you creative with friend?

Ivan Chai picking ☕️ Washington is definitely Ivan Chai picking ☕️ Washington is definitely in my bones. I had no idea growing up here that it was one of the most beautiful places in the country. But traveling cross country through flat land and corn fields, uninteresting landscapes and brown deserts, coming home feels magical and has inspired my creativity in a way I haven’t felt in over a year (since I left). Happy to be home for a bit. 🌲🌲🌲

Bread + butter, coffee + Jesus, old hymns and quie Bread + butter, coffee + Jesus, old hymns and quiet moments to care for my home. This call to keeping my home used to weigh on my soul, and Jesus in His kindness pruned away all that was weighing me down over the years. His yoke is easy, and His burden light. The sweet simplicity of less, actually opens the gates to much, much more. Deeper, rooted, child-like faith will carry me further than all of the complicated and busy things I used to think I knew about how life should be. I seek to know nothing but Jesus, and Him crucified. The rest flows from there. Happy Saturday friends. I encourage you to breathe in this day + steer your heart to the bounty in front of you and be thankful. “For the despondent, everyday brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.” Proverbs 15:15 🤍
I made a very long + tall loaf of sourdough sandwi I made a very long + tall loaf of sourdough sandwich bread today, which for me is really exciting. I’ve been making sourdough bread for 3 years on and off and have primarily made rustic country boules. I’ve tried tortillas and bagels and pizza crust, but my comfort zone is the boule. I’ve wanted to break out of this rut for quite some time but life has changed too much too often for me to get into a solid rhythm. This simple little loaf represents my feelings of stability after a big move. We are finally settled and ready to branch out into new things and new spaces of creativity and I’ve longed for that for some time. Praying it’s light and airy when I cut into it, just like my soul now that I have the capacity for creative focus. 😆
Today, we made butter. And today, that was an acco Today, we made butter. And today, that was an accomplishment. I love to get it all done and stay on top of everything, but there are days and even seasons where living in this fallen world causes my energy to go missing and I simply can’t get it all done. Thankful for the finished work of the cross, that I can rest in Christ and His promises of love, working all things out for my good and His glory and being fully able to get me to the end with Him. I may not always be able to get it all done, but I can always wrap up in the blanket of peace that comes from Him “getting it all done” for me. Maybe if I can muster it today, we will plant some seeds for our balcony garden. And maybe, we’ll just watch Little House on the Prairie, and count our blessings.
🌻Hey friends, I’m Kayla! I love thrifting, ba 🌻Hey friends, I’m Kayla! I love thrifting, baking, autumn, music (crooners, alt. christian, old hymns, jazz + classical are my favorites!) sketching + watercolor painting, homeschooling my two sweet kiddos, listening to sermons while I do homemaking tasks (Charles Stanley + Jon Piper are my top choices right now) and I really, really love being at home. I’m a homebody, 100%. It’s my domain, my call to keep, and where my heart is. I love having women in my home to pray, encourage and feast on Gods word with (and usually baked goods too🥐) If I could travel back in time I’d definitely spend time with Ma Ingalls or another strong pioneer mama; I think of those days often and they inspire me to work hard and do what needs to be done. My desire with this space is to share graceful, biblical encouragement for women and mamas. I’m so glad you’re here and I can’t wait to get to know you!
So thankful that God desires to be near to us and So thankful that God desires to be near to us and doesn’t leave us in our brokenness. “God is most glorified in us, when we are most s “God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in Him.” -Jon Piper Happy Saturday friends🌻 Find your joy in Him today, because He is where fullness of joy truly is. (Nothing like the summer heat to help my bread proofing along!)
Slow morning trips to the local farms, finding sum Slow morning trips to the local farms, finding summer fruit to feast on and bake with, reading family written poetry on the balcony in the breeze and working with my hands quietly in the kitchen while my children make forts and tend to pets…I never really dreamed of these days when I was young, but God is so kind he granted me the blessing of giving me what I didn’t know I would love. Not every day or every season is romantic like today. In fact, even parts of today weren’t. But it’s what you do most of the time that makes up your life, and I have been beyond blessed to be a mother at home to the incredible people God gave me to love for the last 8 years.
I started a blog called A Mother at Home, to share I started a blog called A Mother at Home, to share the food, beauty + people I get to enjoy every day. The irony is that right after I started it, we found out we needed to relocate for my husbands career, and we are heading to an apartment in 8 short days. I’m sitting here in a mostly empty house, that doesn’t feel like home anymore. But as I sip on this frothy, vanilla speckled latte and look out my bedroom window for one of the last times, I get to smile anyway and be at peace because I know that home is wherever we go. We have each other and our God and that’s what we need most. Join me as we go on an adventure from rural southern living to apartment dwelling. Being a mother at home is such a blessing and joy. Whether I’m in the quiet country (my first choice!) or the busy city, I can still surround myself with good food, beauty and the ones I love most. I’m glad you’re here.
